This book should come with a warning about how hard it is to set down. It is a moving story about a deeply religious, young Baptist woman (Cindy) who falls in love with and marries a Muslim man and then moves to the UAE. It follows their relationship for 30 years, describing the challenges of integrating into a culture that in many ways was so different from that in which she was raised. It is a timely and important story because it dispels many of the myths and misperceptions we American Christians seem to have about the Islamic religion. I found the description of the lead up to the gulf war as well as the impact of 9/11 to be particularly moving. In addition, reading about the early years of the UAE and its development into such a contemporary and stunning nation was truly fascinating. I was also fascinated with the story of the Pilgrimage to Mecca, and felt moved by her experience.Beautifully written and moving, the story reveals the strength of a truly courageous woman as she adapts to her new life. What a wonderful gift to all of us that Cindy was willing to share her story and that she had a friend like Cindy to capture the salient moments of her life.

Water From Heaven is the story of an American- born woman from North Carolina who meets, falls in love and marries an Arab man from the UAE. She chooses to leave her home and become immersed in her husband's Arab world. Had she married a man from a non- Arab male-dominated country the reader might expect to read about challenges such as language barriers, culture clashes, meddling in-laws and longing for the familiar. This story has all of this but with the added dimension of today's world political climate. Cindy straddles both worlds for a time until September 11, 2001. Now terrorism and extremism are on everyone's minds. What kind of family has she really married herself into? The reality is that Cindy and her husband face many of the same worries as many couples from her hometown in addition to the political strife around them. Cindy and to a lesser extent her husband, Mohammad make this marriage work. Family life balanced with maintaining her own identity drive Cindy to excel in life. Anne you made me root for her!! Loved it!!

I liked it a lot as I lived in Abu Dhabi from 2010-2013 and it was fascinating to read about and learn of a very young American woman move there so early in the UAE history. I could relate to a lot of the situations being an American moving there. I felt the history was helpful and if history books could read like this I probably would have paid more attention.I enjoyed it.

The views expressed are those of one person who chose to leave the faith of her ancestors at a young age to follow the Muslim faith. A faith that brought death in the form of 9/11 to US soil & changed our country by an act of war. Not only is this book poorly written & entirely wrong about the Christian faith, but sadly the beliefs of one are thrust upon the masses & untruth is passed for truth.

Roberts questions the way we enact customs such as marriage, happiness, debt, gender roles, organized religion, parenting, and many more. It's worth a read if you're looking to shake things up a bit!

This is a wonderfully funny and insightful read!! I laughed out loud multiple times while reading it. At the same time, it made me rethink all of the things I was taught growing up. I highly recommend this book!!!

Roberts has a unique view on many topics. Although I would disagree with some of her self categorized "myths" and resulting opinions, there is sufficient food for thought in her book to warrant reading it.

Thought provoking, inciteful, and unflinchingly honest. The author offers her view and allows the reader to form their own opinion. Well worth reading!

What an interesting life and life journey. The story of a woman who rose above, well above, the circumstances of her birth. Her story is written as though she were talking to the reader over coffee. She tells her story and shares her views with a clarity of mind and the written word.

This is an engaging and lively book. I read it a few months ago and still find myself thinking about some of the author's insights on everything from family and relationships to religion and philosophy. If you're looking for a well-written, thought-provoking book, look no further.

Teresa Roberts writes about the lessons she has learned in life: how to simplify, how to move beyond the myths of religion and live a moral life without it, how to appreciate what you have without always yearning for more. Teresa met a “flamboyant older woman” who was a freethinker and independent who helped her discover who she was. She is now providing those lessons to anyone who reads this book. I love David Suchet's voice and the way he reads that is attentive to the content. I appreciate the lack of a sound track. I read from the American NIV which has a few words here and there that are different from the Anglicized NIV sold in the UK though it is not enough to distract.

I've been waiting for this to arrive on American markets for a long, long, long time! It's here, and I am so excited! David's rich voice, intonation, and enunciation makes sure you can follow along and sense the nuances of scriptural context.I listen to this quite often. And am happy to recommend it to anyone else looking for a good narration of the Bible.

Over the years I have purchased complete, or selective recordings of the Bible. This is better than Lawrence Olivier or Charleston Heston's recordings. This morning I listened to Suchet reading Rachel's death in Genesis: "So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem), and Jacob set up a pillar over her tomb. It is the pillar of Rachel's tomb, which is there to this day." I was deeply moved. Suchet was sorrowful, but not maudlin. Just how did David do it? He's an actor. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was fortunate to receive training under theatrical director John Barton. Barton believed in carefully examining the printed words to express the proper passion. And David did.

This is an absolutely beautifully voiced rendition. I listen to many audiobooks and know how the narrator can affect the experience. Of course you should try the sample yourself.Caveat: The audio book formats don't match up with the Bible books, but it's not that hard to bookmark the starts of the Books you want to hear.

My family listens to this recording for free on the Bible Gateway website. We have also listened to the dramatized version, and the versions read by Max Maclean or George W. Sarris, but we prefer listening to David Suchet's voice. I decided to purchase the audio Bible as well so that we can listen offline.

Literally, this audio version of the New Testament is changing my life right now. I never knew how impactful it could be to just listen to the word of God. I don’t get distracted like I do when I am reading.

Higgins brings together a plethora of photographers who shoot outside the box or with innovation so that you can put aside all the photography books that explain how to do it and reach for what another has successfully tried that has resulted in an image you might not ever have considered before.

It would be possible to be slightly mislead by the subtitle of this book - it's more about modern "photographs" explained rather than modern "photography". This book will not help with your technique although you might get some ideas about subject matter. Cynics might also suggest that it might make you more critical about deleting images you regard as failures! Such is the world of modern art - and this is really more about appreciation and understanding of modern art in the form of photographs. It does this by looking at about 100 images from different artist/photographers grouped into several themes:portraitsdocumentsstill lifeactionlandscapeabstractFor each image Higgins looks as why it is considered a "work of art", the approach of the artist, where this fits in the development of photographic art in general, comments by the artist and other ephemera as well as similar images by the artist and sometimes notes on the equipment used although less on the post image manipulation techniques that may have been employed.The structure of the book works well and it's good to either read through or to dip into. In a world that's awash with photographs, through Flikr, Instagram et al, it is highly moot what makes these images so "artistic". To some extent this is true of all modern art. And as with other aspects of modern art, there are times when I feel that, like a good joke, if art needs an explanation then it wasn't that successful in the first place.It's very much a visual book - as you might expect - with explanations of the artists' intentions etc. However, this means that if fails to address what makes any given image art rather than a good or bad photograph. However, if you are into the modern art aspect of photography, this is a more interesting book than if you come at it with a photographer's hat on.

This book was well written with contributions from many people that knew and loved Freddie, the man. It starts off with heartfelt memories and facts from a close friend of Freddie's, and from his first serious male lover. It then goes into memories and quite poignant and sweet stories from others throughout the book. It was all written in good taste, and made me appreciate Freddie even more, which I didn't think was possible.

He remained a private, shy and quiet man among those who met him briefly. His very close friends enjoyed partying with him or hanging out at Garden Lodge. He was a lover of life. So many of his friends were devastated with his death.

Nice to see friends perceptions of a great entertainer. He was aman with many sides that also was a genius. Four men who made Queen who they were. I wish I could have seen him live as i grew up with the music. Sadly missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace sweet prince keep singing with the angels.

I love the fact that there were so many different people data input into this book. Got to see the many different sides of Freddie Mercury. Love his music and still miss him to this day!

This was a wonderful read! I really enjoyed reading all the different stories about people's experiences on meeting Freddie Mercury. It made me feel close to Freddie myself. I smiled,laughed,and cried my way through it. Definitely not another blah blah kind of book! I truly loved it! Freddie would be proud! :)

Learned about Freddie from those who knew him. I enjoyed reading this book. Sad when it ends because I love Freddie so much?

Loved knowing more about Freddie, but really wonder if he'd be unhappy with his very private life being written about...I have the same thoughts about Hutton's book.
