(sounds like a commercial?) -- Seriously, the cost of the book is cheap considering the amount of $ "waste" I've found in my company -- the danger lies in lean thinking and that people are afraid to change, stuck in the rut of waterfall / V processes. How much does it cost to initiate a change request (for a feature that wasn't quite developed like you wanted)? Meetings, status reports, follow up, retest....What if it could have been done right from the very beginning? I highly recommend it..

This basically is a book chronicling one person's journey to becoming musical at an advanced age. It is a very interesting read, and spends a lot of ink describing some of the science of the brain's processing sound and related topics. It touches on some other things like the history of music, but mostly not in a very deep way. It was meant to be a fairly short and quick read. It was interesting and informative, but it definitely does not teach you how to play a guitar. What it is, to me, is motivation. This book records one man's journey toward becoming a good guitarist and his thoughts and reflections along the way. It has many interesting bits of information about various musicians peppered throughout the book that did add quite a bit of interest.

The author shares a lot of interesting information about learning music. The science behind it. His personal journey. Stories of other musicians experiences with learning guitar. Guitar teachers, etc. However, about halfway through, I became quite bored. Unfortunately, a lot of the chapters read like filler. Too esoteric to keep me interested. For example, his experience at guitar camp was very fun to read! I would have enjoyed reading more cool anecdotes like this, and fewer about brain synapses and singing.If you enjoy the science behind learning an instrument, then you may enjoy this book

When I first saw this book on Amazon, I was hesitant to buy it because it only had 3 1/2 stars. (Most books I read are 4+)I dug deeper into the reviews to see that people expected something different. I decided to give it a shot anyway. And, after purchasing and reading the book, the description seem to match the product.The story is arched around Dr. Marcus's journey to learn guitar at an advanced age, 38. He discusses the benefit as well as the disadvantages of music learning later in life and how it effected his quest to learn to play guitar.I enjoyed the studies and theories that were shared. I will be looking for more books like this that mix psychology, learning methods, and music. Well done.

I picked up the guitar at the age of 40… I questioned if I'd be able to learn it or not and I basically told myself that I'd have to stick with it for a year before giving up. I bought a guitar and put in that year and at the end it started to sound like something and I've kept with it and it's been rewarding… But it raised that question in me of, can I do this and how difficult is it going to be….So, I stumbled on this book about five years later and the author went through the same type of experience but he questioned deeper and from a lot of other angles. Not only was he going to give it a go at learning guitar but he was going to study the how and why if it was really possible to teach an old dog new tricks. (I'd read glad wells outliers, so was familiar with the 10,000 hour concept and that whole line of questioning, but this guy was asking about it for older folks and how much was possible once you weren't a kid anymore) I thought it would be an interesting read.So, the author starts on this journey and takes you along for the ride. He talks about going to guitar camp, interviewing musicians, his learning style and how he progresses, what works and what doesn't…. He ends up in a band at camp with kids and they go after some basic song writing and performance goals and what that dynamic is like… I found the book really interesting because I'd been through some of what he'd experienced and also in trying to answer the questions of how to get better at something, which is something anyone can apply to anything they dare to learn.

A charming story by a neuroscientist who gives a blow by blow of his midlife attempt to become a guitarist from scratch. The story is interspersed with mini-lectures on music history, music theory, music education, and (most thoroughly) music and the brain. It proceeds with a light touch, but covers some heavy material. Not everything is at the level that a professional musicologist would like (especially the quick overview of 1000 years of music history), but almost everyone will learn something.

Nice memoir. In the end, the answer is yes, you can learn a new instrument as an adult, however, having a sabbatical of a year or more (as the author does) in which to learn, practice and jam with experts greatly increases your likelihood of success.

I enjoy this book very much. I can relate to what the author went through because I picked up a guitar later in life, at age 20, after always being told that I wasn't musical and that I was tone deaf. I went through many of the same things that the author went through. I really cracked up when he talked about the difficulty of learning the F chord, and being confused by the duplication of notes on the guitar neck. (I went through all of that too). Currently I get paid money to play music, and I have recorded two CDs of my own material. If "Guitar Zero" had been available when I started my journey years ago it would have saved me a lot of time and headaches. I would recommend it to any beginner who needs to find the shortcuts. One area Marcus delves into is an area that I never thought about; the part of our brain that we use when playing music, and the fact that there really is no "musical" part of the brain. It's not something we need to know to be a good guitar player, but it's interesting.

I got this book because I’m a 60 yr-old trying to teach myself bass guitar. I was hoping for more detail and strategies for older people learning a new instrument but found mostly info on the author’s relationships and about studies on learning. Still, it’s worth a read.

I really enjoyed this book. I separated from the Navy in 2013 and started college a year later. I have always done well in school and I have a tremendous amount of self-discipline. However, college is a completely different kind of animal. Thomas does a great job of explain things in a relatable manner without being condescending. I believe his advice would be useful for anyone who is trying to be successful not just those in college.

After returning to the classroom to teach a college freshman success course, I soon realized that I was ill-prepared to instruct a room full of tech savvy students on the latest & greatest study strategy apps. I did my research and quickly discovered Mr. Frank's youtube channel and this book.I have decided to use his resources for supplemental instruction by incorporating the videos and self-management tools into the college freshman success courses, tutoring program, as well as, the peer-mentoring program this semester. This is it! One of best books for college students. I just discovered it two weeks before my son started his freshman year. I would recommend that a high school junior or senior start implementing some of the practices discussed in the book. They will hit the ground running. The advice is very practical. The recommendations in this book come from research and experience. Mr. Frank has done his research into learning and procrastination and he shares the results of his labors with the reader. From his personal accounts, you can tell that he followed his own advice during his college education. The book gives recommendations for helpful apps-both iOS and Android apps. Anyone who advises a student to use Evernote knows what he is talking about. The book's aim is to reduce the "friction" in getting your work done so that you can do some of the important nonacademic activities of college: exercising, socializing, participating in organizations, etc.Mr. Frank wants to write an entire book about procrastination. I will purchase it.

This story is SHORT! Not worthy of a standard comic, much less a graphic novel. The story itself is good, the art is less so, but not bad.

Interesting lovecraftian twist in a Gaimon story, and compelling art work, so it's an obvious win. That said it's a very short read, with more than 2/3 of the page count devoted to sketch art, which would have probably have influenced my purchase had I read carefully.

Cool little story. But like others here have said, 2/3 of the book is a bunch of b/w sketches showing how the book was conceived, of interest to no-one but comic book designers.

Story: It's the end of the World, again. Adjuster Lawrence Talbot has set up in the quiet little town of Innsmouth, which smells of fish no matter where you go. Lawrence discovers through a series of odd meetings that the people of Innsmouth are setting up the end of the world and the key for these events the blood of a werewolf, in other words Lawrence. But it's always the end of the world and only by some small action or pure luck is it diverted.Art: Hit and miss. Some of it was very nicely done, the werewolf and some of the other supernatural elements were nicely done and looked beautiful and but the people's features were overly exaggerated in a way that made them seem lumpy, it's the best word I can think of to describe them. The actual story is only about 50 pages long the rest of 100 some odd pages are scans of the sketching process. So it's the book twice over showing the initial sketch to the more detailed drawing before inking and coloring. It was nice to thumb through and see the process but it's not something I'm typically interested in.Review: Overall it was an interesting story, I would be interested in reading the original prose that Gaiman wrote, but the illustrations do add something to the story, and it's nice to have that visualization there. It was strange and weird and just the kind of thing I like.

Lawrence Talbot is an adjustor in Innsmouth, an ancient and mysterious seaport in Massachusetts. When he is informed that the end of the world is fast approaching and will be triggered by a werewolf, Lawrence has reason to worry since he is, himself, a werewolf.Only the End of the World Again is a graphic novel based on the short story by Neil Gaiman by the same name. It ‘s a rerelease of the original graphic novel with the added bonus of the development of the artwork. To be honest, I had mixed feelings about that artwork. The backgrounds and the wolf are beautifully depicted in great detail while there is a kind of distorted lumpiness to the people – I suspect that was deliberate but I’m not sure it worked all that well. This would honestly be a 3.5 read because although it's not amazing, it's solid, but compared to recent 3 star reads, it's clearly superior. Neil Gaiman has a peculiar way with words, stories, and atmosphere that I can't find elsewhere. Simply put, a lot of people try to write like Neil and they'll always come up short... because only Neil can write like Neil....... which is funny since Innsmouth and a LOT of what happens in this story is from HP Lovecraft and there are plenty of Lovecraftian moments... yet they feel in their rightfully disturbing place.It's not everyone who can do a genuine homage that still feels original. Neil can.The artwork in this work I suspect could be a bit polarizing because it's very distinct and not something I think everyone would enjoy. The loose facial features and odd body shapes resemble human physiology but are clearly a stylized depiction with uncomfortable and ethereal lines that can at times be disquieting. That said, it's a lovely work, unique in style, but I don't think any panel floored me and left my jaw on the floor, taking more attention than the wordsmithing or storytelling. It serves mainly as a vehicle for the story and is comfortable in that role, more so feeding into the fever dream like story.In short, is it the best Neil has to offer? Nope. But you have to understand that there is no such thing as an "average" Neil story. It's all peculiar in its own way and if you like Gaiman's writing style, you'll enjoy it. You may also enjoy it if you're a fan of Lovecraft. You may even enjoy it if you're both a fan of Gaiman and Lovecraft, or you might think it comes up a little short.If you want my honest assessment, here goes: I really like it and I'm happy I read it but I'm not sure I'd buy it. Take that as you will.

Oh boy. Neil Gaiman is hit or miss for me but I always come back to his graphic novels and picture books. I wasn't blown away by this one but I found it very compelling even though I hardly understood parts of it. It's a combination of the werewolf myth and Chthullu mythos. Not being a Lovecraft reader I didn't get that part of it but I'm familiar enough to know Lovecraft influence when I see it. The werewolf I'm much more familiar with and was tickled that the shapeshifter here was named Lawrence Talbot in homage to the classic Universal monster. I found the story/art pretty gross at times and mildly baffling at others but the story is one I couldn't stop reading.

 Great sheetmusic book, very good transcriptions with all the songs plus 3 songs the way Elton John plays them.

I purchased this book for my granddaughter, and she LOVES it. I spent just a few dollars to have it made into a spiral bound book. Lauren's piano teacher was so pleased, and Lauren really enjoys the way the pages turn so easily and "stay put"! The songs are fun to play, and there is no need to remind Lauren it is time to "practice".....she is playing without any prompting!

Good arrangements. These are not for easy/beginning piano. They can provide a lot of enjoyment for an intermediate to advanced player.

I've found Julia on YouTube while looking for good techniques, as an adult beginner violinist. She's great, kind in her teaching and inspiring. The book is great as the songs are familiar and simple and encourage you to keep playing. As soon as I downloaded it, I picked up my violin and started playing!

This is an excellent book with sheet music for 51 different titles! All arranged to be easy enough for beginning players. There were several titles I was familiar with and a few that I was not, which is nice. The only thing I would have liked to have seen would be to have the stings listed above the notes with the finger numbers. It seems hard for me to look both above the notes and below the notes at the same time, though this might help force you to learn to look at the notes and know which string to play. Overall I am very pleased with the book.

The music is clear and easy to read, which makes playing more fun. It also has a great selection of songs to choose from. You can definitely tell that the book was made by an incredible teacher. I would definitely recommend this to all beginners!

This book from the first page addresses how to read the music by each string & placement of each associated finger. The author writes very clearly & with the interest for the player. I believe her approach is unique & inspiring to anyone picking up the violin. Any future violin materials by this author most certainly I'll be the first inline to buy!

I’m very happy to have such a great book aimed at adult beginners. It is a good mix of songs with a variety in style and challenge level. This is exactly what I was looking for as someone who has only been playing violin for a short period of time.

I really enjoyed reading about Sy'Noba and Eze. They are both powerful forces, but they had to find their own way. That's what makes this book different from the other paranormals by Natavia. Everyone around Sy'Noba and Eze knew what lied ahead but wanted them to find their own path. Noba is a force to be reckoned with, she's a beast with the spears. Eze the King of the lost land played no games when it came to his mate. I like the sabres because they were for peace, but some of the lions lost their way when Y'kiki left. Lynx got on my nerves but I'm glad she found her happy. Quanir kept me in stitches, I'm interested to find out more about his and Toyi relationship. Asha should have changed her ways sooner, Koja and Naji met their fate trying to go against the king. Anyone looking for a good read this is the book for you, Natavia is not afraid to step outside the box and I love her for that. Her stories are very detailed, thought provoking and she always brigs the funny 😂😂. ROAR is not to be slept on!!

I really wish I could give this story more stars. Ms. Natavia did a really great job with this book. The story flowed like she lived it and is just retelling what happened. It was detailed and I wasn't lost with all the different characters along the way.it was well written and definitely a page turner!!! I loved the way Eze and Sy'Noba found out their truths through their relationship. Even though they didn't always see eye to eye they had a peaceful love!!! I know we will probably see more of the characters but this was definitely worth the wait!!!

Everytime I read one of your paranormal books i get so engrossed I want to be in it, I loved this. Quanir was a fool, his mouth was just reckless. I wished we had gotten some pov's to see how he was thinking, especially when he became a family man. Sy'noba and Eze def beat a lot of odds to be together, thank goodness they got it right this time. I was happy lynx changed, she was really irking my nerves in the beginning. It was a great book that kept you entertained throughout, the action was just non-stop. Great read, we want more.

This standalone was a real page turner and had me laughing my butt off. I cried a few times as well. Family will screw you over faster than a nicca on the street. I’m happy it was a happy ending and love conquered all the road blocks thrown their way.

I am such a huge fan of Natavia paranormal books. This book was so good I could not put it down. I don’t want to give anything away but you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait for the next installment.
