I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review and purchased the published addition.I’ve loved Emily since we first met her precocious little self in Maine where she met Sven and then went on an adventure. I just knew someday we would get their story. It was fated.Although life and teenage angst got in the way for awhile Emily and Sven were always meant for each other. I loved their story, I personally enjoy a love story where our hero and heroine know they belong together, and even though they still must face struggles (and boy do they) they don’t go through all that angst of do I love him, are we meant for each other, before coming together.Once again evil is afoot in Sky’s Viking world. It’s always interesting to return and see how past characters have fared and meet their children. I’m also not much of a history buff, however Sky' writing is so mesmerizing I’m really enjoying learning more about Vikings, their history and lore.With two ancient and not so nice dragons trying to continue their own personal vendetta using their dragon descendants and the Sigdirs will good be able to overcome evil this time? Of course I’m sure the good guys will win, but I can’t wait to take their journey with them and find out how they kick evils butt this time.
In August 2018, in Winter Harbor, Maine Emily noticed a very large ash tree in her backyard. Emily is none too pleased to have this tree there. Emily will even sell the house to escape the tree. When a mysterious woman shows up at her front door talking about a prophecy and the tree in Emily’s backyard are somehow connected. In this tree though holds Emily’s fate and her death possibly. Emily must go back and correct it. When Emily goes back to 932 A.D. Scandinavia trouble abounds. When Emily sees her best friend Sven who needs her help, she is relieved to see him but the problems she must deal in 10th century Scandinavia are even worse. Can Emily stop the threat to both their worlds with Sven or will the enemy destroy everything they hold dear including their love for each other?This book was fraught with danger and heart stopping action throughout a perilous journey from modern time to 10th century Scandinavia. The book did start off slow and there were quite a few moments of confusion and feelings of being lost, in not understanding the other characters or the history. Even though this is the first book in the series it didn’t feel like it. There are references to other stories that happened to the side characters and maybe it would be helpful to read those first instead of blindly jumping into this book. Emily the brave courageous smart heroine might be a dragon shifter manages to hold her own, be a warrior and yet deal with her lust for Sven. She doesn’t just want to sleep with him all the time and is able to think for herself which is a relief that she can still be a girl that wants to save everyone. Sven was the best kind of hero! Sure he might be the best friend of Emily but he is willing to do anything for her, saves her and even if she isn’t his mate he still loves her. Despite the perplexity of the story it is still well worth the read!
I don't know how Sky Purington does it but every time I read her books I get so drawn into the story that it feels real. Viking King's Vendetta is a fantastic book. The characters and story pull you in from the beginning. Every word pulls you further into the heart of everything. Mystery, magic,romance and deep and abiding love. These are what makes this book impossible to put down. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Viking King’s Vendetta has fantastic world building, long awaited romance and seering love, adventure, plus twists and turns, and magic. So much fun. Sky Purinton has another hit. Totally recommend this book....and for that matter, all the MacLomain and Vikings series by this author. Start at the beginning and continue reading till you have read all of these interconnected series.
The saga continues and keeps getting better. I've read all Sky's books and love that characters from previous books are acknowledged & part of the book. Already pre-ordered the next book!!
Every time Sky completely tangles me up in tangents of plots and people in incessant distress mini details and weirdness, I swear off... and get the next book-11 so far
She has done it again,this book is awesome,The story flows and pulls you in . I couldn't put it down.
