I read this book with the idea that I would give it to my grand daughter for a summer read. The more I read the more engrossed I became with the story. The book hit all the right notes - adventure, friendship, mystery, time travel and young love. The author's use of descriptive phrases put you right in the middle of the action - making it compelling enough to capture the attention of a teenage reader. The book has enough meat to it to provide a good read for both male and female readers - not easy to do for a young adult market. But don't get stuck on the young adult category - the book is crafted well enough to hold the attention of any age group. It is hard to imagine that this is Ms. Von Schleh's first novel as you immerse yourself in a story that can support two time periods. After a very satisfying read - I was ready for more. hats off to this new author!
Really took me away into anther time and place. Enjoyed the characters and author's attention to the two worlds. I felt she did a great job in bringing to life the time travel aspect of feeling like you are in 1895. Even though this is a YA book, as an adult, I really loved it! I've given it to all ages and everyone, male and female, said they couldn't put it down. I hope there will be more from this author.
"But Not Forever" is such a beautifully written novel that captures your attention right from the beginning. I could not put that book down because I was so anxious to learn more about the characters and what happens to them. Two young girls are switched in time and end up in two very different worlds. They are 120 years apart! The author does an outstanding job describing what 1895 looked and felt like. It's a thrilling journey that makes you think and want to try to help the characters. I had goosebumps reading certain chapters because of the mystery that the story contained. The major part of the novel is how everything is connected...(no spoilers here!). At the end, I was so overwhelmed and thought how amazing it would be to have this book made into a movie! It's a sweet read and is worth your time. Highly recommend it!
Intrigue and magic. I loved it so much I bought a copy for my granddaughter. The story took me back in time to those lazy summer days when my friends and I were carefree. Oh, if only we had discovered something so intriguing in the old shacks we came upon. There is something comforting that keeps you turning the pages of this story. A great read for a teenager.
First when I heard about this novel I got scared, because my novel has the same premise, but fortunately after reading it I realized there are definitely similarities however they are vastly different.The story is dynamic, full of fun, self-discovery and growing up, daring to be who they meant to be. I loved the characters very much, they were so helpful and the antagonist is extraordinary, the entire story is exceptional I recommend it to everyone who wants to read about courage, love and heartwarming friendships.
This novel is beautifully written and a great read whether you’re a fan of time travel, budding romance or adventure and intrigue. The author’s deft use of vivid language hooked me from the very beginning. As I read, I felt I knew the two main characters, their very different worlds and the difficult choices they would have to make. Von Schleh weaves the two timelines together seamlessly, still allowing room for unexpected twists and turns. A charming, heartfelt adventure.
Endearing and fun, I could hardly put the book down before it was done and left me wanting more. Having grown up in the Seattle area and knowing just enough of my family history there, my mind had me wandering about in my past with family members hunting for blackberries on Camano Island and beach walking on Vashon. Ghost towns and mountain storms have a strong place in my memory and were always accompanied by a fire. Many thanks to Jan for this sweet and memorable book. Now I'll just wait patiently for her next.
I wish this book was written when I was a teenager, I couldn’t even put it down! I love the unique time line twist and how everything was well written and connects to ones imagination. It came together so well in the end that it left me wanting to read more. A definite must read! Highly recommended.
